A- Understanding Trump Tariffs V2.0 (US/EMEA/Globe)
On February 1, 2025, the Trump Administration issued three executive orders imposing significant tariffs on imports from China, Canada & Mexico.
Tariffs of 10% took effect on Feb. 4, 2025, in addition to all existing Tariffs on all Chinese imports , following President Donald Trump’s executive order under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA).
The new tariffs had been reflected in applicable tariff rates published in the US Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTSUS), includes all imports of Sub-Chapter 5603 (nonwovens)

“With these ongoing changes, we are sharing our expectations for the global nonwovens market outlook and analyzing how these shifts are impacting the nonwovens industry both within the U.S. market and globally (EMEA) .”
1- The Impact of tariffs on nonwovens market in U.S. :
A. Effect on End-User Industries
Nonwovens are essential in industries like healthcare, hygiene, and consumer goods. Tariffs can impact pricing and availability, potentially influencing the cost and accessibility of end products like medical supplies, sanitary items, and filtration systems.
B. Opportunity for U.S. Domestic Nonwovens Manufacturers?
The U.S. market relies partially on import volumes, making the imposition of tariffs beneficial for domestic nonwoven manufacturers by reducing competition from foreign suppliers.
C. Challenges for U.S. Domestic Nonwovens Manufacturers?
However, the industry’s weak pricing power limits its ability to raise prices significantly, even in response to higher import costs, Since raw materials are also partly imported, tariffs may lead to increased costs for domestic manufacturers’ [PRODUCTION] , these higher input costs could offset the potential benefits of reduced competition and dynamic could hinder them from fully capitalizing on the potential advantages of tariffs, as rising production costs may not translate to increased profitability.
Conclusion:
– While the intent of tariffs is to boost domestic production, their dual impact on both finished goods and raw materials creates a balancing act. Manufacturers may struggle to maintain profitability if raw material costs rise significantly and they cannot pass those costs on to consumers.
– Tariffs can protect domestic industries in the short term, they often lead to higher costs, trade inefficiencies, and supply chain adjustments. The long-term impact depends on the adaptability of industries and the resolution of trade disputes.
2- The Impact of tariffs on nonwovens market in EMEA Region (Europe, Middel East & Africa)
A. Challenges for EMEA Domestic Nonwovens Manufacturers?
- We are pointing out a significant market shift that could result from US tariffs on Chinese nonwoven materials, with reduced access to the US market, Chinese manufacturers are likely to redirect their products to other regions, such as Europe, Middle East & Africa (EMEA).
- This would increase supply in these regions, intensifying competition among manufacturers and potentially driving down prices as Chinese manufacturers, known for competitive pricing and high production volumes, which could pressure local manufacturers in EMEA regions, to lower prices or improve efficiencies to maintain market share.
☑️ Why is it Important ?
increasing supply may lead to price reductions, benefiting buyers in the short term but challenging for manufacturers with higher cost structures.
B. Shifts in Supply Chains / Oppertunity for EMEA Domestic Nonwovens Manufacturers☑️
Tariffs might encourage Importers to reconfigure supply chains to source nonwovens from countries unaffected by the tariffs specially [EMEA supplier] or to develop domestic alternatives. However, restructuring supply chains can be time-consuming and expensive.
☑️ What are the possible ways EMEA Domestic manufacturers can respond?
They could invest in technology to reduce production costs, streamline operations, or focus on niche markets where they can differentiate their products.
Alternatively, they might lobby for tariffs or trade barriers to protect their domestic industries [anti-dumping cases in nonwovens Sector in [Europe / GCC / Egypt ]
